REDMOND, Wash. (AP) – A Cirque du Soleil performance in Washington State ended abruptly when a pipe on a hydraulic system burst and sprinkled the audience with what the theater company said was about 'vegetable oil.

The equipment failure occurred Friday night during a performance in Redmond, a suburb of Seattle. Nobody was hurt.

The King County Sheriff's Office officials are telling the Seattle Times that a malfunction of the equipment has occurred and that there is nothing suspicious.

Jonathan Fay, a member of the public, says that the liquid was pulled from the stage and spread over several rows. People on stage started to slide.

Cirque du Soleil states in a statement that members of the public will be reimbursed.

A Cirque du Soleil artist died in March during a Florida performance when his hand slipped two rings and fell to 6 feet (20 feet).
