The Australian newspaper which found itself at the center of an international controversy after publishing a racist and sexist cartoon of Serena Williams doubled its support for the cartoonist.
The Herald Sun reproduced Williams' portrayal of Mark Knight on the front page the day after the cartoon caused a global storm on Twitter.
The caricature of Knight shows the legend of tennis with an exaggerated face and body jumping on his broken racket with a lollipop nearby. In the background of the original, a blonde opponent representing Naomi Osaka faces a chair umpire who pleads: "Can you let her win?"
The front page, which also features caricatures of Australian politicians as well as President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, is titled "Welcome to PC World".
"If Mark Knight's self-proclaimed censors stand out in his Serena Williams drawing, our new politically correct life will be very dull," the slogan adds.
Knight, who suspended his Twitter account on Tuesday, defended the cartoon and remains convinced that the show has "nothing to do with gender or racism".
"I drew this cartoon Sunday night after watching the US Open final, and seeing the best tennis player in the world complained and he found it interesting," he told The Herald Sun.
"The caricature on Serena is about his bad behavior the day and not the race. The world just went crazy. "
