EASLEY, S.C. (WSPA) – Easley city leaders say weekend mosquito spraying could stem the threat of West Nile virus.
On Friday, officials confirmed that one person was infected with the virus in Pickens County.
The city and county hired an agency to treat mosquitoes on Saturday.
Easley officials said that the pesticides used had been approved by the BC Department of Health and Environmental Control and by the EPA, and that they were not used. were not harmful to the man.
Residents are also encouraged to do their part and eliminate potential mosquito breeding areas.
Easley Fire Chief Butch Womack asked residents to empty all containers with seated water.
City leaders say 7 News that they have not determined whether a second set of pesticides would be sprayed.
This is the last confirmation of the virus in the Upstate.
Officials from the City of Greenwood stated no one was infected at the end of August.
The virus has been confirmed in birds in the counties of Spartanburg and Anderson.
Areas where infected birds have been found have also been sprayed to reduce mosquitoes.
