WASHINGTON (CIRCA) – Authorities warn of a hoax message that affects millions of Facebook users around the world.

The user receives a message stating "Hello, I have received another friend request from you yesterday … that I have ignored and that you may wish to view your account …" .

The message then tells you to "hold your finger on the message until the Resend button appears … then press Transfer …".

There is no word on where this message started but this has been confirmed as a hoax.

"Your account does not send duplicate friend requests and you have not received a request from the person to whom you are transferring it.You simply do it because the message tells you DO NOT DO, "Office of the Plaquemines Parish of Homeland Security and Civil Protection, said on their Facebook page. "Otherwise, you become one of the reasons why the hoax spreads so quickly."

If you receive this message, experts advise you to ignore it and delete it.
