Ultron was a turning point for the Avengers in the Marvel film universe. Not only did the life and death of the Android lead to the existence of the vision, but they also led to the Sokovia chords, the Avengers separating and, in a sense, preparing the Arrival of Thanos on Earth.
But if Ultron was not dead? That's exactly what fan theory suggests, and the evil android may have realized that Thanos was coming and took advantage of this awareness. The theory, suggested on Reddit by the EmperorJoker user, has some elements and two ways that Ultron could have survived: one by jumping into an invisible body or drone. As you can see, the general idea of the theory is that as the poster has written there are so many ways that "Ultron can be alive." Although the idea that Ultron manages to escape in a drone or other body seems a bit difficult since it is Vision that destroyed it using a beam of light. Mind Stone's energy, the idea of Ultron being part of Vision is interesting. It has already been acknowledged that Vision is part of Ultron – not only Ultron and Helen Cho have created his body but Vision itself admits that it is a mix of Ultron and JARVIS – but the Idea that Ultron is charged with Vision instead of being destroyed More or less sitting and waiting for Thanos to come and destroy most of humanity is a bit scary. Especially when he is connected to another theory that Ultron knew from the beginning that Thanos was coming.
Ultron was originally programmed to protect the Earth and humanity from extraterrestrial threats. While he uses the Internet to learn about his creator and that is what makes him horror to believe that the Avengers are the real threat, his sensitivity is fueled by Mind Stone. It is not impossible that, via Mind Stone, he has heard of Thanos and his plans for Infinity Stones and the universe as a whole. If Ultron knew about Thanos and his plans and realized that he was going to lose to the Avengers, it would be very clever for Ultron to hide in Vision and let Thanos do his job. After all, it would save her effort and the machines are nothing if they are not effective.
All that being said, this aspect of the theory, however, has a pretty big hole. Even though Ultron survived Vision, when Thanos took the stone War of infinity in order to use his power to annihilate half of the universe's life, Ultron would be dead as Vision. It is also possible that if Ultron had been removed to another body or drone to survive taking the mindstone or that the slam itself could have destroyed it anyway. After all, what exactly constitutes "life" to balance the universe is not clearly defined.
