Away from home Define photos confirm the relationship between Betty and Ned

A classic Marvel Comics couple will team up Spider-Man: far from home, while new photos show Betty Brant (Angourie Rice) holding hands with Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon). The photos also seem to confirm that J. B. Smoove, whose role was a mystery until now, interprets one of the professors of the Midtown School of Science and Technology.

In the comics, Peter Parker meets Betty and Ned at The daily bugle, where they both work (Ned as reporter and Betty as secretary to J. Jonah Jameson). However, in Spider-Man: Homecoming they were Peter's classmates rather than his colleagues. Ned is Peter's best friend and one of the only to know his secret identity, while Betty is Liz's best friend, Peter's lover.

True to his title, Spider-Man: far from home toured Europe, filming first in London and then in Prague, and now actors are shooting scenes in Venice. The film seems to be based around Peter and his friends doing a school trip across the continent. The last pictures show children slightly attacked by pigeons, which is fun in itself, but there are two particularly interesting details to note. First, one can see Betty holding hands with someone who, although usually out of frame, is almost certainly Ned. Secondly, we can see J. B. Smoove accompany Mr. Harrington (Martin Starr) with the children, so he is likely to play one of the Midtown teachers.

Betty Brant was actually involved with Peter at one point in the comics, but eventually she ended up marrying Ned. Mary Jane Watson was the bridesmaid of the wedding and Peter was Ned's best man. We probably should not expect to hear wedding bells for the movie versions of Betty and Ned just still, but it's nice to see Far from home match the two – especially since Liz moved away at the end of Back homeleaving Betty without her best friend.

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: far from home will be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie released after the epic conclusion of next year Avengers 4. Like this year Ant-Man and the wasp, Far from home should be a little less ambitious adventure, allowing Marvel fans to decompress after all Avengers 4 throws them on them.
