Ayton and Doncic shine during their NBA debut

Many of the NBA's top picks from 2018 debuted and some of the potential future stars kept their promises on Wednesday.

The most important game was in Phoenix, where No. 1 seed Deandre Ayton made his Suns debut against the Dallas Mavericks and No. 3 seed Luka Doncic.

As fate would have it, Ayton scored his first NBA points on Doncic, drawing the blame.

Ayton finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in the 121-100 win over the Suns.

Doncic did not shoot the ball well (five out of 16 of the field), but scored ten, got eight rebounds and four assists and showed repeatedly why the Mavericks were so enthusiastic about him, including effortless help behind the back.

In Orlando, No. 6 overall Mo Bamba scored 13 points and seven rebounds in the Magic win over the Miami Heat. He blocked two shots but modified several others. The Magic wanted a rim protector, and the center showed its material in its debut.

Anthony Davis scored 32 points and filled the scoresheet elsewhere (16 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 blocks) in the New Orleans Pelicans' 131-112 victory over the Houston Rockets.

Goalkeeper Kemba Walker scored 41 goals, scoring seven of 13 long-distance shots in the 113-112 loss to the Charlotte Hornets against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond had 24 points and added 20 rebounds in a 103-100 victory over the Brooklyn Nets.

Magic striker Aaron Gordon had 26 points and 16 rebounds in a 104-101 win over the Heat.

The Nets lost only three players against the Pistons, making their terrible three-point shooting range (five out of 27) even more painful.

Allonzo Trier, who was not cleared in the NBA draft in 2018, scored 15 points in his debut and looked like a steal for the New York Knicks with several outstanding games, including a stunning shot and a dunk.

The LeBron James era begins for the Lakers. Everyone knows what James brings, but how will the redeveloped Lakers line work with him? There will be no answer after a game, but many NBA fans will see King James begin the next phase of his career.
