Baker Mayfield makes his NFL debut for Browns after Tyrod Taylor's injury

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield made his NFL debut on Thursday night against the New York Jets.

Starting QB Tyrod Taylor left the game in the first period and was assessed for a concussion, prompting Cleveland to take the lead in this year's first regular season action.

At half-time, the Browns confirmed that Taylor had suffered a concussion and excluded him for the remainder of the match, ensuring Mayfield would start the second half. Drew Stanton, the third quarterback of the Browns, is inactive for the game.

In her first trip to the NFL, Mayfield completed her first pass, a 14-yard pass to Jarvis Landry in the middle. His second was another dart, to David Njoku for a win of 17.

In his third draw, Mayfield was sacked and escaped, but the Browns recovered and his fourth game was a throw in the middle of Landry for a win of 16.

He threw an incomplete ball in his last pass, which allowed Greg Joseph, who signed Monday to replace Zane Gonzalez, to make a placement of 45 yards. The goal on the pitch allowed the Jets to lead 14-3.

Taylor had a difficult half hour because the Jets often had rushers coming to join him. He left 4-for-14 for 19 yards and was fired three times.

Cleveland selected Mayfield with the first pick in April after winning the Heisman Trophy in Oklahoma. In her senior season, Mayfield collected 4,627 passing yards with 43 touchdowns and six interceptions in 14 games as the Sooners won 12-2 and won the Big 12.
