The shooting, which lasted 30 to 35 minutes on about a square kilometer, "has consequences on a domestic violence case," said Thursday the sheriff of Kern County, Donny Youngblood.

"There seems to be more than one husband and one woman arguing, because other people have been targeted. There is a reason for this, and we have to find that reason," said the sheriff.

Shots began around 5:15 pm Wednesday at T & T Trucking, where the shooter – after his arrival with his ex-wife – shot a man with a .50 caliber handgun, Youngblood said.

He then shot his ex-wife, killing her, according to the sheriff.

Another man then escaped from the building and the shooter continued running, putting himself in his vehicle and driving to the front of a nearby hunting equipment store. . The shooter found this person outside the store and shot him, Youngblood said.

The gunman then went to a nearby house, where he shot dead a man and a woman, said the sheriff.

He then hijacked a vehicle with a woman and a child inside, but the shooter let them go, Youngblood said. He then headed to a nearby highway, where he saw a deputy and stopped in a lot of things.

When the member shot a gun and confronted him, the gunman shot himself in the stomach, Youngblood said.

The names of the gunman and the five people he allegedly killed are not immediately available.

The gunman and his ex-wife had divorced for four months and she had just requested a new hearing on child support and the value of property, Youngblood said Thursday.

The investigators are not sure of the motive, but it seems that the former couple had some type of connection with the trucking company, and the shots seemed well planned, Youngblood said.

Investigators intend to question about 30 witnesses in the case, Youngblood said.
