Henry Winkler won the first Emmy Primetime Award of his career – four decades after starting playing The Fonz on "Happy Days".
Winkler, 72, won Best Actor in a humorous series for his role as Gene Cousineau in HBO's comedy "Barry".
The delighted actor walked to the stage jokingly that he had prepared his speech "43 years ago".
"If you stay at the table long enough, the chips come to you, and tonight I have to empty the table," said the star.
Winkler faced stiff competition in his category, which also included Alec Baldwin ("Saturday Night Live"), Louie Anderson ("Sneakers"), Tituss Burgess ("Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"), Kenan Thompson ("Saturday Night Live") "), Brian. Tyree Henry ("Atlanta") and Tony Shalhoub ("The wonderful Mrs. Maisel").
It was Winkler's sixth nomination to Primetime Emmy, including three nominations in the outstanding lead actor in a comedy category for his role as Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli on "Happy Days" of ABC, aired from 1974 to 1984.
The actor concluded his short speech of jubilant acceptance with a hilarious shout to his adult children.
"Children, children, Jed, Zoe and Max, you can go to bed now, Daddy won!" he told them.
