Howard rushes for TD, patriots take the shot again

Bears rookie defensive lineman Bilal Nichols recorded his first NFL game in the second quarter, forcing the Patriots' running back to recover his opponent, Sony Michel.

Jordan Howard scored on a 2-yard touchdown run for a 17-7 Bears lead. The Patriots were injured in the drive with two penalties and a few missed opportunities during an interception.

The return of the Patriots, Cordarrelle Patterson, made up for a change earlier in the game by scoring 95 yards for the following kickoff for a touchdown to reduce the Bears' lead to 17-14.

Michel left the game after getting knee injury during Nichols' take-away match.

Trubisky's TD Series puts Bears ahead

Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky gave the Bears a 10-7 lead with 59 seconds to play in the first quarter with an 8-yard touchdown. Trubisky has traveled a lot more than that. He rushed to the right line to avoid any pressure, turned back to the 30-yard line and led it down to the bottom left corner of the end zone.

Touch training was put in place during the first delivery of the Bears game. Bears linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski forced Cordarrelle Patterson back from the Patriots to fumble, while Bears safety guard DeAndre Houston-Carson picked him up on a 24-yard line.

The Bears scored for the first time on the board when kicker Cody Parkey scored a 46-yard goal to reduce the Patriots' lead to 7-3 with a time of 3:50 to play in the first quarter. The pass included a 22-yard pass from Trubisky to Trey Burton, but Bears wide receiver Allen Robinson could not pass a third-down pass.

The Patriots take the lead 7-0

The Patriots landed 75 rushing yards in their first training and took a 7-0 lead over the Bears with Tom Brady's 9-yard pass to Julian Edelman with 11 minutes left in the first quarter.

The Patriots needed only eight games to score, rookie Sony Michel starting with a run of 18 yards and Brady completing 4 of 5 passes in training.

Active Mack; Gronkowski outside

Bears linebacker Khalil Mack will play Sunday against the Patriots at Soldier Field, despite a right ankle injury all week.

Mack suffered ankle injury during the first half of the Dolphins loss last week, but played in the second half. He missed two days of training and was limited on Friday as the Bears prepared to host the Patriots for the first time since 2010.

Mack leads the Bears with five sacks, four forced fumbles and a pick-six.

The Bears Wide receiver Allen Robinson is also active after a groin injury, as well as cornerback Prince Amukamara, who again injured his hamstring against the Dolphins. Cornerback Bryce Callahan, who injured his ankle this week in training, is active.

Cornerback Marcus Cooper was inactive Sunday with a thigh injury. Back Michael Burton, linebacker Kylie Fitts, offensive linemen Rashaad Coward and Bryan Witzmann, wide receiver Javon Wims and defensive lineman Nick Williams were scrapes for the Bears.

About four hours before the match, the Patriots demoted striker Rob Gronkowski with a back injury.

Defensive linemen John Simon, Geneo Grissom and Keionta Davis, tight member Jake Hollister and offensive linemen Marcus Cannon and Brian Schwenke are also inactive for the Patriots.
