Beer stimulates patients with pancreatic cancer

Rapid City, S.D. – People suffering from one of the most deadly forms of cancer were helped Sunday by potent drinking consumers.

Dakota Point Brewing organized an awareness and fundraising event for the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation Sunday afternoon in Rapid City.

Pancreatic cancer has a survival rate of only 8% and is poised to become the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States.

The costs of fighting pancreatic cancer can be enormous and put families at financial risk. The foundation helps to alleviate some of the financial burden.

"Some families have pancreatic cancer and can no longer work because they are sick," said Rhonda Hatfield, founder of the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation. "They lose a main income. So we help them pay their mortgage, their electricity bill, put food on their table while they are in treatment so they can focus on their treatment and have less stress from the financial burden of cancer pancreas.

One dollar of every beer sold Sunday went to the foundation, and people not drinking beer could also donate.
