The duo behind the ice cream Ben & Jerry hopes to "resume the Congress" by creating flavors inspired by the Democrats.

Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield team up with the MoveOn Social Justice Organization to create a competition to support seven progressive candidates ahead of the mid-term elections.

In a press release posted on the MoveOn website, the two men said: "We need a Democratic majority to verify the unlimited power of President Trump".

The contest will feature flavors and flavor names inspired by Jess King House Democrats, Lauren Underwood, Aftab Pureval, J. D. Scholten, Ammar Campa Najjar, Stephany Rose Spaulding and James Thompson.

It was also noted in the press release that the competition was not associated with Cohen and Greenfield's company, but only on an individual basis.

"We must also send progressive champions to Congress who will repair our health care system with Medicare for All, protect clean air and water, and withdraw money from politics" they added.

A consultant working with Cohen and Greenfield said the men had chosen the candidates by focusing on "long shots, newcomers and candidates who might not have the chance to be chosen by institutional players."

The seven flavors will not be for sale. Instead, limited batches of each candidate's flavor will be created and then raffled off to supporters, Politico reports. MoveOn would also contribute to the fundraising campaigns for each of the candidates.

In 2016, Cohen created "Bernie's Yearning" in honor of the presidential candidate from his homeland, Vermont, Senator Bernie Sanders (I). The flavor was limited to 40 pints and more than half in the Sanders countryside that year.
