Sunday's meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers is the most important match of the Bengals calendar at the start of the season. Sitting at 4-1, Cincy leads the AFC North, but the 2-2-1 Steelers want to overthrow a rival and re-enter the fray. Unfortunately for the Bengals, many players may not be in action.
According to Friday's injury report, the list is full of injured stars. Half-offensively Giovani Bernard has already been ruled out for the sixth week because of a knee injury. This is the second consecutive game that Bernard will miss. In his place, Mark Walton will continue his rotation with the starter Joe Mixon.
Similarly, Billy Price (foot) and Tyler Kroft (foot) will be out against the Steelers. Price is still in shape and his foot will not be evaluated until October 16th. Trey Hopkins will continue to start in his place, while CJ Uzomah will take the Kroft representatives to an end.
The Bengals also have three players registered as striker Cedric Ogbuehi, cornerback William Jackson III and wide receiver John Ross. Ogbuehi did not lose so much of his memory considering that he was already supposed to be a healthy scratch. Ross, meanwhile, is the fastest Bengal player and will be essential to score points against the Steelers. Cornerback Joe Haden will likely follow closely with A.J. Green, leaving Tyler Boyd and Ross as secondary options for Andy Dalton.
However, potentially losing Jackson to the Steelers would be devastating for Cincinnati's defense. Last season, star receiver Antonio Brown, stopped by Cincinnati Enquirer. The star cornerback held Brown without catching four targets in the first game. While he was the lead defender, he split three of four passes in Brown's direction. He continued this production in the second game, not allowing a capture on four other targets while serving as the main defender in the cover. Jackson broke one. If he misses the match, Dr. Kirkpatrick and Darqueze Dennard will provide the main cover while Tony McRae will work outside the niche.
