Police are looking for a man who allegedly broke into a house in South Berkeley on Sunday morning and sexually assaulted a woman inside.

At around 6 am, police said that the man had illegally entered a residence at Blake Street Block 2400, in the south district of the University of Berkeley. The man burgled the house and "sexually assaulted a resident inside" before fleeing, said Lt. Col. Peter Hong of the Berkeley Police Department.

It is not known whether the man fled on foot or in a vehicle, and the police refused to disclose the details of the assault or burglary.

The police described the suspect as a black man between the ages of 20 and 30, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, shaved to a close with a square, medium-sized, bald or very short-haired face. He wore a polo shirt with three buttons, a solid orange color running from the collar to the upper part of the chest and with horizontal stripes at the bottom.

Hong said the police had not received similar reports, but had encouraged other victims or potential witnesses to contact the department's Special Victims Unit at 510-981-5716.
