The recent defeat of the US Senate at the expense of Beto O. Rourke did not prevent him from thinking that the Texan Democrat could soon announce a bid for the presidency of 2020 – and if he presents himself, he seems likely that he would get the endorsement of former President Barack Obama.
In an interview with David Axelrod for Ax files on CNN, the former US leader has praised O 'Rourke, calling him "an awesome young man who ran a fantastic race in Texas".
While Obama spoke of the Texas politician only after receiving a public question about "Betomania" in the United States, Obama seemed to admire his fellow Democrat unequivocally.

"It's like he had based his statements and his stance on what he believed," Obama said. "And that, you would like to think, is normally how things work, unfortunately it is not."
Obama went further by suggesting that he even saw himself a little bit at O 'Rourke, claiming that what he liked "most" of the breed of O' Rourke, was that he was a little bit "in love with". was that he "did not feel constantly put to the test of polls".
"The reason I was able to connect with a significant part of the country was because people felt that I had said what I meant," Obama said. "What I am looking for most of the time, is it you who seems to mean that?"
Asked by Axelrod, who is also the former Obama strategist, if O 'Rourke seemed to be that kind of person, the president replied, "Yes".
But Obama also said that Mr. O. Rourke was not the only Democrat he had in mind for 2020.
"I think there are others," Obama said. "We have a number of people who think about the race that fall into that category."
With this commentary, the former president seemed to confirm that O 'Rourke was still among those who planned to run for the next presidential election.

Speculation that the Texan Democrat could run in 2020, even after his defeat in a tight race in the Texas Senate against Republican President Ted Cruz in mid-term elections this month, already seems to have created some fervent for the 2020 presidential primary field.
Mikal Watts, a San Antonio lawyer, told Politico that several donors and "political agents" from Iowa had been calling to find out if Mr. O. Rourke would show up before making other commitments.
"They do not want to participate in other presidential campaigns until they know if Beto is going," Watts said. "And if Beto is running, what good Progressive Democrat would not want to work for Beto O'Rourke?"
The San Antonio lawyer said that he had not seen "this kind of electrical excitement about a candidate" since 2008, the year Obama was elected.
