WASHINGTON – The Beto Challenger O 'Rourke is getting closer to Senator Ted Cruz, although the outgoing president is clinging to a 5-point lead in a Quinnipiac University poll released Monday.
With a race 51-46 eight days before polling day, Congressman El Paso has reduced Cruz's almost half-way point in the last three weeks. Quinnipiac polled 1,078 likely Texas voters from October 22-28 for the poll, which has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5%.
The same polls found a 9-percentage-point lead over Cruz in a poll released Oct. 11 and the same margin three weeks ago, despite President Donald Trump's announcement in Houston on Monday of a 16,000 protest in Houston.
The latest figures put the Democrats at their fingertips, thanks to a strong presence among independent voters, favoring the 56% to 40%. Cruz holds a 2-1 advantage among English-speaking voters.
"For those who need a survey to show that it is possible, we are clearly about to go at the right time after organizing more than 50 events during the first week of advance voting. Texas of each of the 254 counties we visited will win this victory, "said O & # Rourke.
Cruz's sonar, Chris Wilson, was skeptical about the results.
He questioned the selection methodology of respondents, noting that Quinnipiac calls voters at random rather than working from active voter lists.
"It's a bad poll for many strange reasons," Wilson said.
Only 3% of likely voters contacted by pollsters remain undecided, reflecting the deeply polarized nature of the electorate and the fact that Cruz attracts both conservatives and progressives.
