Beware of green thumbs: freeze warning in effect across most of southern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued a freeze warning in much of southern and eastern Ontario, warning that temperatures will likely drop near freezing from Saturday to Sunday.

It also warns that some crops can be damaged by freezing due to cold temperatures and recommends that producers of frost-sensitive plants and trees take preventive measures.

However, the federal weather agency says frost is less likely in areas near Lake Ontario, where temperatures are expected to remain a few degrees above freezing.

Environment Canada issues frost warnings during the growing season, when temperatures are likely to reach freezing, which could damage and destroy plants and crops.

Although the weather agency issued freeze warnings in parts of Toronto, the city itself was spared.

Temperatures are expected to reach 4 ° C tonight in Toronto, but should reach a high of 15 Sunday.

In Ottawa, the overnight minimum is 0 ° C, with temperatures reaching about 13 hours on Sunday.
