Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk may forget their dream of colonizing and transforming Mars into a human settlement, at least according to Bill Nye.
The popular science commentator told USA Today that the very idea of making the Red Planet more earth-like is nothing but "science fiction".
"This whole idea of terraforming Mars, as respectful as I can be, are you raised?" Said Nye. "We can not even take care of this planet where we live and we are perfectly adapted to it, not to mention another planet."
The science teacher also dismissed the idea of living on Mars permanently.

"No one is going to settle on Mars to raise a family and have generations of Martians," said Nye, who appears in the "MARS" series of National Geographic Channel. "It's not reasonable because it's so cold, and there's almost no water, there's absolutely no food, and the big thing is problem, I just remind those guys that there is nothing to breathe. "
Although the series of National Geographic channels represent human beings living on Mars, Nye does not agree with it.
"People disagree with me about it, and that's because they're wrong," he added, noting that even though scientists are even stationed in Antarctica for months the colder in the winter, no one lives there permanently.
Scientists have long dreamed of creating research bases on the red planet. NASA even organized a competition to see what such an infrastructure could look like. Bezos has long been a supporter of space tourism and Mars colonization through his efforts with his space exploration company, Blue Origins. Musk, who runs SpaceX in addition to Tesla, has called for a colony on Mars at South By Southwest last year to prevent a dark new age.

Nye said that living in a dome simply was not feasible.
"When you leave your dome, you will put another, and I think it will age very quickly," he said. "Especially the smell in the spacesuit – all the Febreze you can carry, I think it's really going to help up there."
The red planet shares some similarities with the Earth, such as ice caps and seasons, and has captivated the imagination of mankind since the beginning of the space age.
But for the exploration of Mars, Nye is on board.
"I want to find evidence of life in another world in my lifetime, so Mars is the next logical place to look," he said. "People say what are you going to find there? We do not know it, and that's why we're going to explore the unknown horizon."
