Let us all pause, just a moment before the drama of Where Will LeBron Play catches fire, to enjoy the national treasure that is Bill Russell.
He managed to steal the second annual NBA Awards on Monday night, doing what many people, even those who find Charles Barkley hilarious and entertaining, would sometimes like to do to Sir Charles.
He dropped it.
This is true. With a smile and a laugh, he extended his middle figure.
So far, James Harden has won the Best Player award, with LeBron or Ben Simmons being named a rookie of the year or one of the other winners. It was a solid entertainment. Later, in a tweet in which he shared the unscrambled picture (see it here or feel free to use your imagination), the 84-year-old Hall of Famer, considered by many to be the greatest NBA player of all time, offered a plausible explanation for his behavior.
"Sorry, everyone," he wrote. "I have forgotten that it was live TV and I can not help myself .. Whenever I see Charles, it's just a pure instinct."
It's a tweet that has been liked more than 98,000 times (from 7:30).
Some of the answers are solid.
Sometimes you see, the extension of an intermediate figure can only be a joke. Joel Embiid integrated the video of the moment and admitted in a tweet: "LMAO". Moreover, Russell has done, perhaps more for the cameras than for individuals, before.
And Barkley and Russell have a little history. In April, Russell tweeted that Barkley "has a better chance of being struck by lightning" than keeping Russell.
This is not the first time Russell has been insolent at the awards ceremony. During last year's event, he came on the scene with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O. Neal, Dikembe Mutombo, Alonzo Mourning and David Robinson and feared that he could hit all their … butts.
What did Sir Charles do to deserve this salute? he presented the Lifetime Achievement Award and thanked all legends of the NBA.
This is how the other big rewards have been shaken.
