ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) – The Buffalo Bills prevented veteran receiver Jeremy Kerley from making a surprise decision, further reducing their depth.
Kerley was released on Saturday, so the Bills could sign defensive tackle Robert Thomas. The moves took place one day before Buffalo's home opener against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Kerley is an eight-year veteran who signed a one-year contract with Buffalo in a free agency in April. He caught two passes for seven yards and was third among Buffalo receivers, scoring 44 wins in a 47-3 loss to Baltimore last week.
Buffalo has only five receivers in a position that lacks depth behind starter Kelvin Benjamin.
Thomas was promoted to active training the same week. Buffalo released defensive tackle Adolphus Washington and signed defensive end Nate Orchard.
