Birds in a Minnesota city act "drunk" – flying through windows, cars and streets staggering. The cause? Fermented berries, according to the police.

After receiving "several" reports of strange bird behavior, the Gilbert Police Service went to Facebook to publish a report. public notice on why birds appear "under the influence".

Some berries that the birds of the region eat ferment earlier than usual, because of an early frost, said the department. This, coupled with the fact that many birds have not yet migrated south, is at the origin of this drunken bird phenomenon.

"Oh my God, that explains all the birds that have bounced off my window lately," said Cassie Polla.

Other commentators have reported handfuls of birds flying in their cars and dead birds in their lawns.

This is not an isolated incident. People have already observed "drunk" birds eating berries. A study published in 2012 revealed that several flocks of cedar wax had died after flying against windows and fences because they were intoxicated by overripe berries. In 2014, National Geographic reported a "drunken" behavior of waxed Bohemian jug with beak-tinged berries that were admitted into an animal health unit to dry out.

The drunk behavior usually disappears in a few hours.
