Although DC and Warner Bros. have not yet officially announced what will follow Wonder Woman 1984 in the DC Extended Universe, all the signs indicate Birds of prey to be the next installment of the superhero franchise. The film will mark the return of Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn (with the producing actress as well) after her appearance in Suicide teamand Cathy Yan was hired to lead in April, working on a script written by Christina Hodson. Until there Birds of preyThe heroic formation would consist of Renee Montoya, detective from Black Canary, Huntress and GCPD, and we now know who has been examined recently to fill these roles.

Initially, let's look at the ladies for Black Canary. Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Jurnee Smollett-Bell are both at the top of the list to play the role of the noise screamer, and even if Janelle Monae is also in the running, it is unclear if she has been tested for this role. Although Black Canary is white in comics, THR says Warner Bros seeks "various talents" for Birds of preythe version of the character. Notable Mbatha-Raw credits include The beauty and the Beast, The Cloverfield paradox and A ride in time, Smollett-Bell was a regular series on television as Friday night lights, True blood and Underground, and Janelle Moane, in addition to being a Grammy-nominated singer, has appeared in such films as Moonlight and Hidden figures.

We then have the frequent partner of Black Canary, Huntress. Margaret Qualley, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Cristin Milloti have all tested or read the role, but there is no indication that some of them have an advantage over the rest. Margaret Qualley is best known for her role on HBO Leftovers, Winstead's resume includes Scott Pilgrim vs the world, 10 Cloverfield Lane and Fargo (the TV series), and Cristin Milloti appeared in the wolf of Wall Street, How did I meet your mother and Black mirror, among others.

Finally for Renee Montoya, Justina Machado of Netflix One day at a time and Roberta Colindrez from Amazon I like Dick have both tested for the character. Unlike Black Canary and Huntress, it does not look like Renee is going to get her superhero Birds of prey. However, since it has become the second issue in comics, there may be a scenario where she turns to vigilance in the CUSD.

Other actresses are supposed to consider Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya, but Warner Bros. obviously wants to determine who will lead Birds of prey in the next two weeks, production should start early next year. We here at CinemaBlend will keep you informed of what's happening with Birds of prey as more details come into play.
