Los Angeles (AFP) – Dmitry Bivol of Russia retained his WBA crown with a unanimous decision over Canadian Jean Pascal at the Hard Rock Hotel in Atlantic City on Saturday.

Bivol, 27, won the third defense of his title and won almost every round against the heavy outsider Pascal. Two judges have scored 119-109 and the other 117-111 in favor of Bivol.

Bivol picked up a strong right hand in the fourth round of Pascal's head which made the challenger waver. Bivol maintained the attack throughout and managed a total of 217 shots at just 60 for Pascal.

He made Pascal come back almost all through the fight and the only thing he did not do was get the coup de grace.

"Every time you shoot for the knockout round, but sometimes you can not, but I've shown my boxing skills," said Bivol who improved to 15-0 with 11 KO.

Pascal, 36, has been among the best of his boxing career for 13 years.

But he looked rusty during his first serious fight since the defeat against Canelo Alvarez in June 2017.

During his last fight in July, he knocked out Steve Bosse, a former minor hockey player, in the eighth round of a novelty bout.
