Blue Wave Receding? TX GOP Wins Special Election in Democratic District for 139 Years

The special elections are not the best indicators to predict the results of an election year, but since the liberal media has presented such victories as a harbinger of the GOP apocalypse, we must blow the champagne for the victory in Texas last night. Republican Governor Greg Abbott must be happy. This special Senate election saw a Republican victory in a district that remained in the hands of Democrats for 139 years. The GOP was not even supposed to be competitive in this race; they ended up winning by 6 points. Oh, and Clinton brought this district in 2016 by 12 points. Needless to say, the Democrats were a bit shocked (via San Antonio Express-News):

A retired gamekeeper, [Pete] Flores defeated the former state and US representative Pete Gallego for the Senate seat after receiving the support of some of the state's most prominent politicians, including Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and the detective American John Cornyn and Ted Cruz.

"We Conservatives are conservative in our way of doing things. The shootout only ended when the last shot was fired, "Flores told the Express-News after Gallego conceded a phone call shortly before 9 pm. "The last shot was fired."

According to the Secretary of State's website, Flores won with 53% of the votes the 47% of Gallego with 44,487 votes.

Flores and Gallego competed on Tuesday in the second round, having emerged from a squad of eight candidates respectively in first and second place in the July special election to replace former Senator Carlos Uresti. The long-time legislator left office in June after being convicted on 11 counts.

Christian Archer, the strategist of the Gallego campaign, was shocked by the results, adding that they were not able to generate as much enthusiasm as the Republicans.

"I have no regrets, but I have a lot of disappointment," said Archer.

The victory of Flores caused an incredible upheaval in a district that political observers should not have been competitive for the Republicans.

So before we dig a new day of democratic hysterics about the unpredictable and possibly false allegation of sexual misconduct that was launched against Judge Brett Kavanaugh with the aim of derailing his appointment to the Supreme Court, the GOP won a victory in Clinton district in Texas.
