Bob Evans recalls pork sausage products for possible contamination

Bob Evans Farms recalls some of its pork sausage products sold in retail stores as they may have been contaminated with plastic.

The US Department of Agriculture on Wednesday announced the recall of nearly 47,000 pounds of pork sausages, claiming they may have been contaminated with foreign materials, including hard plastics.

The problem was discovered when the company received consumer complaints about foreign materials in the products.

The products were produced on August 1, 2018 and are packaged under the Bob Evans Farms, Meijer, Schnucks and Giant Eagle brands.

The following products are subject to recall:

• 12-ounce trays labeled "Bob Evans Maple Pork Sausage Links". These products contain an expiry date of October 16, 2018 or October 19, 2018, as well as the lot code of 8213.

• 12 oz. Trays labeled "Bob Evans Brown Sugar & Honey". These products contain an expiry date of October 16, 2018 and a lot code of 8213.

• 12 oz. Trays labeled "Meijer Maple Flavored Sausage". These products contain an expiry date of September 6, 2018 and a lot code of 8213.

• 12 oz. Overpack trays labeled "Giant Eagle Eagle and Pork Breakfast Sausage Ties". Caramel color added. These products contain an expiry date of September 10, 2018 and a lot code of 8213.

• 12 oz. Trays labeled "Breakfast Sausage with Schnucks Maple Recipe". These products contain a lot code of 8213.

The recalled products bear the EST establishment number 6785. These items were shipped to outlets in Indiana, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Anyone affected by an injury or illness should contact a health care provider. Consumers should check their freezers to make sure they do not store any of these products. These products must be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.

No adverse reaction related to the consumption of these products has been confirmed.
