(KUTV) – The body of a runner missing at American Fork Canyon was found Saturday.
Derrik Jenkins, 28, of Pleasant Grove, has never been home Wednesday night.
Research teams looked for him Thursday night to Saturday, according to a press release from the Utah County Sheriff's Office. More than 50 volunteers participated in the research. Jenkin's body was found Saturday and the forensic doctor clearly identified him.
The cause of death is unknown at the moment. However, the sheriff's office reports that the body was seriously injured, possibly as a result of a fall.
Johnathan Scott, track runner and one of Jenkin's best friends, told 2News that Jenkin was on a mission to the summit of the 100 peaks of Wasatch Mountain.
Jenkin's family asked for space. In a Facebook post, they also asked the public not to go to the search area.
After the release of the update, the family created an event for a candelight vigil for Jenkins on the Facebook page titled "Finding Derrik Jenkins".
The vigil will take place at 20 hours. at the Tibble Fork Reservoir in the mountains.
