A Boeing Fly Jamaica Airways plane en route to Toronto crashed after returning to the Guianese capital following a technical foul.

Fly Jamaica flight OJ256 returned to Georgetown after a technical problem, the airline said in a statement posted on its website, saying the 118 passengers and 8 crew members were safe.

The plane, a Boeing 757 by Flightradar 24, was heading to Toronto following hydraulic problems after takeoff, AFP quoted the country's infrastructure minister David Patterson as saying. The plane crashed and skidded off the track, injuring six passengers, according to the report.

The plane is a separate model of the Lion Air 737 Max that plunged into the ocean last week, killing passengers and crew.
