Boris Johnson and Marina Wheeler divorce after 25 years

Boris Johnson, a former British foreign minister, and his wife Marina Wheeler have to divorce after two and a half decades of marriage, the couple said on Friday.

The two decided to separate "several months ago," according to a statement.

"We subsequently agreed to divorce and this process is ongoing," they said. "As friends, we will continue to support our four children in the years to come. We will not comment further.

The past few months have been tumultuous for Johnson, a long-time British politician who resigned in July from Theresa May's cabinet in a soap opera after a series of discussions on how to proceed with Brexit. He openly criticized the so-called Checkers transaction in the weeks that followed.

Mr. Johnson's private life has long been a source of tabloids – and a political problem for the eminent Conservative.

In 2004, party leader Michael Howard sacked Johnson from the Conservative bench for lying to him about a case, but the episode seems to have little effect on Johnson's personal popularity. He was then elected twice to the eminent role of the mayor of London.
