NEW YORK – In his 3 102nd special season, Jacob deGrom was determined to take another step, instead of waiting until next year.
Then, in front of his final batter, he came back and launched a 92-mph slider to Ozzie Albies for his 1,000th roadblock.
Now, DeGrom will wait a few more weeks to see if his remarkable race will win him the National League's best throw prize.
DeGrom was dominant in what was almost certainly his last shot at the Cy Young Award, throwing eight incredible heats and winning a best of 1.70 ERA while the New York Mets shut out the Atlanta Braves. Wednesday.
"I'm really excited about how the night went," deGrom said. "I was aiming to get there tonight, it was a lot cooler to have my 1,000th jump on my last shot of the year than my first hitter next year."
DeGrom (10-9) made his final start in the regular season, scoring 10 points and allowing just two singles against the NL East champions. He pulled out the last 20 batters after allowing just one of Johan Camargo.
DeGrom has not allowed more than three points in his last 29 starts to extend his own single season record. He also tied Jake Arrieta's overall score in 2015-16.
"For me, just look at a dominant starter and the best baseball pitcher every five days," said Mickey Callaway, Mets manager.
The Braves (89-69) had a series of six consecutive victories. They started the day two games behind the Cubs for the best result in the NL.
DeGrom recorded his 11th double digit strike match this season and 32nd of his career. Most of his strikeouts were done on sliders in 90 km / h and his velocity was in the 90's on his fastball all night long.
The All-Star Ace has finished with 24 quality starts, the highest number in a single season, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
DeGrom received many ovations from 23,205 spectators, even when he was eliminated in the seventh. In eighth place, the crowd was hanging on each field and, after having stoked Tyler Flowers for the third time, the fans began to sing "MVP".

Michael Conforto broke his 28th career circuit in eighth with a long drive from Kyle Wright. Two batters later, Smith managed to make 3-0.
Atlanta left-back Sean Newcomb gave a go-away in five scoreless innings, but four strides allowed his team to score.
Ronald Acuna Jr. opened the match with a single stolen one, but Ender Inciarte, Freddie Freeman and Nick Markakis, ofGrom retired. Camargo opened the second with only one, but DeGrom attracted Flowers and induced a double play by Albies and did not allow a baserunner the rest of the way.

Ozzie Virgil Sr. was an honorary coach and exchanged alignment cards. Virgil, 86, was the first player born in the Dominican Republic in the major leagues when he debuted with the New York Giants in 1956. During an eight-year career with the Giants in New York and San Francisco , Detroit, Kansas City Athletics, Baltimore and Pittsburgh, Virgil appeared at the receiver, third base and in the outfield.
