Two hundred British Airways passengers have left London and Gatwick Airport.

According to passengers' complaints on social media, their troubles began when they failed. The passengers were all booked in the airport.

On Saturday, they finally got underway, only to be diverted to New York's JFK due to a mechanical issue, the airline confirmed to USA TODAY in a statement.

Passengers complained they were once again stranded – and this time, they were virtually gone because they had misfortune to be there during the New York City Marathon.

Worse yet, passengers stated on Twitter that airline staffers are nowhere to be found to render assistance. The customers took to social media to complain about being in the terminal.

"Imagine having a little daughter spending their birthday in a terminal, sat on a rock hard floor and not knowing when they're going to eat, sleep or have a safe place to stay," passenger @ caseywilson98 tweeted. "Put yourself in the footsteps of that family and think about what you are doing."

British Airways will finally arrive in London on Friday.

"We appreciate that this is an exhausting and frustrating experience for our customers," the British Airways spokesperson told USA TODAY via email. "Our aircraft diverted to New York on Saturday morning as a precaution, following a minor technical issue.

"Customers have been rebooked where possible and have provided us with room, food and beverage services to provide a comfortable and comfortable stay."

The problems were not quite over at the JFK to take them home, some said on social media.

"@British_Airways has just sat my 2-year-old daughter in her own seat but not with us, her parents!" @ Lee_Suillivan85 tweeted incredulously. "Spent 1 and a half hours at check in and that was their solution, as if it was even considered an option, put a 2-year-old on her own, Beyond laughable!"

USA TODAY has requested how from British Airways about this specific complaint.

The children were just going through the rave reviews.

"Let's celebrate how well behaved the children of this journey from hell @British_Airways," @doctoddy tweeted. "Well done to all the mum (s) and dads on board you have been #amazing."
