The owner said that the airline was hit by a cyber-hacking, the personal data of customers who booked flights on the carrier's website were stolen, the latest in a series of corporate data breaches .
International Consolidated Airlines Group SA said on Thursday that the violation targeted customers who booked flights with British Airways between August 21 and September 5 and was investigating the incident. The stolen data did not include details of the trip or passport.
A spokesman for British Airways said Friday that about 380,000 card payments had been compromised.
Shares listed in London in IAG fell 3.9% on Friday.
IAG stated that the violation had been resolved and that the police had been informed. On Friday morning, British Airways customers received an email informing them that they could be affected and advising them to contact their bank or credit card provider.
A number of large companies have recently experienced data breaches. In June, German sportswear retailer
