Marin Mazzie, veteran of the beloved theater, died at the age of 57 on September 13, after three years of battling ovarian cancer.
She made her Broadway debut in Big river, playing Mary Jane Wilkes, but became famous (and won her first Tony nomination) as Clara in the 1994 musical of Stephen Sondheim Passion. In 1998, she was nominated for the role of "Mother" in the musical Ahrens and Flaherty. Ragtime (co-starring with Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Peter Friedman), and again for the 1999 revival of Kiss me Kate, paired once again with Mitchell.
Ms. Mazzie's credits also included star turns Spamalot, Man of La Mancha, and Balls on Broadway, as well as Broadway Next to normal, in which she shared the stage with her husband, Jason Danieley.

I loved Marin Mazzie. So much of. She was everything. She was brilliant, strong, kind, inspiring and brilliant in the Broadway community and around the world. I could not believe it every time I had the chance to be in orbit, at 54 below or elsewhere. This tragic loss is unfathomable. Just devastating. Here is Marin and Jonathan Larson behind the scenes of Carousel in the summer of 1981 at the Barn Theater in Michigan. She was 20 years old, he was 21 years old. When I found this photo at the Library of Congress in 2016 and sent it to Marin, she replied, "Jennifer! That made me smile. I remember having this picture I was playing Carrie and it was Jonathan's character from the opening waltz.I will never forget the kicks that he had to do at the end of the number !! Then a few minutes later , she took the time to email me: "I just remembered that he named this character" Mr. Witherspoon "! You've sent me to the memories! "Marin was everything you wanted a legend, and then some, the bravest, the most generous, the most unique, in his performance, in his life." love."
Rest in peace, Mrs. Marin Mazzie. I feel so lucky to have had the chance to work with her, even very briefly for a reading, and she was impressed by her grace and talents. https://t.co/q3d9AFG4Qv
