If Brock Osweiler was going to have success anywhere, it was going to be here. It was going to be with Adam Gase, a coach who is relentless in his position and has a current position.
"In this day and age that we are in, too many people are too fast to place judgment," Osweiler said Wednesday. "So many people want to bring you back, rather than build you up."
Osweiler will start his second straight game at Miami Dolphins on Sunday. And it seems logical he was also starting the following Thursday at Houston, where he was beat down the most.
Osweiler was tagged an instant bust, perhaps not quite enough, because he was paid $ 21 million in 2016 goal threw one more interception than touchdown. The Texans actually made the playoffs, but Osweiler was ridiculed and his relationship with coach Bill O'Brien soured.
To be fair, Osweiler did not look great in Miami. He certainly threw too many interceptions, yet he said he was having a "tremendous" camp.
Turns out he played with total conviction in that overtime defeat of the Bears last Sunday. And yes, he was, well, "tremendous."
The thing about Osweiler is a punching bag, a punch line. But suddenly, this idea that Osweiler can provide outstanding value and contribution to Dolphins backup is no joke at all.
"That's about what I expected," said Gase, who, to be fair, would express confidence in defeating Detroit if I was suddenly thrust into the lineup.
Gase and Osweiler have a special connection, dating back to their time in Denver, where Gase was a quarterback coach and offensive coordinator. Osweiler said that on Sunday, he was looking forward to exactly what he was looking for.
Which makes us think that Osweiler is some sort of a joke.
Before the last game, I was told that the Dolphins were high on Osweiler's "snap count etiquette" and "huddle etiquette." More than 600 people liked or retweeted the remark, with many more mocking the idea and wondering if it was sarcasm.
Well, actually, no, the Dolphins really like the way Osweiler handles himself. As in, in the meeting room, on the practice fields and yes, it turns out, it's game days when it's Miami's quarterback.
I'm on the way Osweiler called his teammates together and the way he spoke to me.
"He's extremely loud," said Gase, intending compliment.

On Wednesday, I noticed how impressive Osweiler was in his first news conference as a starter for the Dolphins. And yes, it will not matter much if it has four turnovers on Friday.
Except, maybe it would be, if he kept watching Miami in the game anyway. Osweiler seemed mature, poised, thoughtful, introspective, grateful, polished, self-deprecating, self-aware and entirely professional.
To be honest, it all reminded me of Peyton Manning. And NO, BROCK OSWEILER IS NOT PEYTON MANNING. So do not "at" me, friends.
But it was kind of a Manning was at the game on Sunday, as a guest of Gase and Dolphins staffer Clyde Christensen. And that the icon spoke with Osweiler in the locker room before the game. And after the win. And on Monday, too.
The two are close. And so Osweiler, who like Manning is tall (insert joke, here), is trying to be in many ways. What did he learn?
"How to prepare," Osweiler said. "How to prepare for a game. And a season. It did not matter if it was April, June, middle of August, October. How every single minute in the day matters. How do you go about your business matters? And it's going to rub off on your teammates. It's going to rub off on your coaches. How to set a standard and hold people to it. Something we say a lot in the offensive meeting room is standard over feelings. "
The way Osweiler talked about rubbing off on teammates in a positive manner rubbed off on me. It made me think about the disaster that Jay Cutler was last year, rubbing off on an uninspiring way.
Osweiler, which is a good place to start when you're trying to hold on to the fort until you start. Tannehill's shoulder is healed enough to go.
Osweiler said he does not do social media, which makes you feel good when you're in the UK. NBA-style salary dump. Osweiler's goal was a tremendously positive positive social media development involving him.
#BROCKTOBER is real, and it is spectacular. I mean, at least, so far.
"Guys in the locker room have had fun with it," Osweiler said. "My family has had fun with it. So go ahead and keep writing it. It's fun. Right now, it's Brocktober. I'm not looking much past that. "
It's clear that Osweiler feels completely propped up by the Dolphins' organization. He complimented Gase and offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains and quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree and even two dolphins mental coach specialists, who have helped frame his relentlessly positive mindset.
"My confidence will never waver," said Osweiler, who will be making a positive contribution to Lions this week.
Osweiler quipped about how well he knows how to pack up a house. He spoke about the importance of any athlete owning "ear muffs" to drown out the outside noise.
This might never have come, if not for Gase and the Dolphins. But what Osweiler has a chance to flip the script, and change the narrative of what and who Brock Osweiler is.
So if it's two games or three or more, Osweiler should leave it to it. To do well, even. Right place, right coach, right time, to, dare we say, Brock N 'Roll.
