Baker Mayfield unveiled the Bengal defense with every expected return. In just one half, he threw for nearly 250 yards and three touchdowns. The statistics are quite impressive, but they do not tell the whole story of the quality of his casting. On a goal and a goal on the six-yard Cincinnati line, Mayfield let slip a pass to David Njoku. It seems that the close match was stopped well below the goal line when Jessie Bates of Bengals caught Njoku in midair. Rather than overthrowing the Browns player, Bates left him suspended, which gave the Cleveland line judge an opportunity to push Njoku forward for the touchdown.
The decision not to denounce this game was probably good. Njoku's momentum was stopped only for a second before Duke Johnson Jr. and Kevin Zeitler headed for their teammate to help him score. The missed obstacles usually give rise to rather embarrassing falls for the ball carrier in football. So it's probably the biggest failure that Njoku could have hoped for.
