Browns fans open Bud Light refrigerators to celebrate a win with free beer

Perhaps to make amends for inflicting "Dilly Dilly" on unsuspecting masses, Bud Light devised a new marketing ploy last month that we can all celebrate: giving free beer to the people of Cleveland. Specifically, free beer for when the Browns ended their drought without a win.

That finally happened Thursday night, when the Browns beat the Jets 21-17, ending a run of 635 winless days and defeating Baker Mayfield's first game in the NFL with a win.

(Fortunately, Bud Light did not get that idea a year ago, or those beers would be SKUNKY.)

On Thursday night, these refrigerators – each containing about 200 bottles of Bud Light inside – were opened, allowing a thirsty city to see its inhabitants stack on top of each other to grab free beer.

Bud Light may not be everyone's first choice, but hey, free beer is free beer. Clevelanders deserved it – and the Browns were not about to let the giant brewer forget it:

Moments later, the chains came out, rewarding the good people of northeastern Ohio with what is technically beer.

The Cleveland police were also on top of the situation, although that could mean a little overtime from them.

Well, the coolest are open and, honestly, Browns fans are rather patient and calm. In fact, they seem more interested in documenting free beer than drinking it, if we believe the number of mobile phones in this bar:

On the NFL network after the match, Mayfield even asked to see if the refrigerators had been opened. Rest assured, Mayfield they have – thanks to your efforts on the ground. Even the former WWE Champion and the current Superstar The Miz participated in the action.

Before beer

Not only did fans have to wait nearly 21 months to see the Browns return to the winning streak, but the team unleashed fans in the first two weeks of the season with close wins. In Week 1, while Cleveland's defense was out of breath, Ben Roethlisberger choked and delivered the team's first loss to rivals Pittsburgh since 2014 in a 21-21 draw.

The former Browns All-Pro Joe Thomas was ready for one of the refrigerators, but he had to wait:

The following week, they led most of the game in New Orleans until the Saints returned to their fourth-quarter spot. Now, former Browns kicker Zane Gonzalez has missed four kicks, including an extra rush and a goal on the field. They lost, 22-18.

Four days later, the Browns won their long-awaited victory and fans were thrilled to drink Bud Light for the first time since their teenage years.
