On Sunday, the 49ers are confident they should win when the Detroit Lions head to Levi's Stadium.
Here are the four 49ers to watch against the Lions, the 48-17 losers in the first game of the season against the New York Jets.
QB Jimmy Garoppolo
After seven wins in his first seven starts in the NFL, Garoppolo finally missed defeat in the first week with a 24-16 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Garoppolo did not play well, but he also did not receive much help from his team mates.
Thus, for the first time in his career, Garoppolo faces adversity. All eyes will be on him to see how he reacts after a bad match.
Garoppolo completed only 15 attempts of 33 passes for 261 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions against Minnesota. His smuggler assessment was a 45.1 career low.
Along the way, Dante Pettis and Pierre Garçon have not been touched by difficult but catchable touch attempts. And George Kittle dropped an attempt over the shoulder that could have resulted in a huge spinning game. Kendrick Bourne took the wrong road, resulting in an interception of Garoppolo for a touchdown. But Garoppolo also did not help things when he knocked over Kittle in the end zone.
It will require a better performance of Garoppolo, and it will also take a better performance of his cast.
DL Solomon Thomas
It is the nature of the business that great things are expected from the chosen players with the # 3 choice in the project. Thomas, a second-year pro from Stanford, is the starter of the 49ers on the defensive. But he was removed for every sleight of hand against the Vikings. Arik Armstead took all these pictures instead of Thomas.
Thomas must begin to approach the level of his ability for the 49ers' defense to take another step forward. DeForest Buckner can not do everything on his own.
WR Dante Pettis
Speedster Marquise Goodwin came out with a deep bruise on her thigh, so Pettis will have his first career start after being forced to play considerable time last week in his NFL debut. Pettis caught two passes for 61 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown touchdown on a broken play.
Pettis should have the opportunity to play. Detroit cornerback Darius Slay is one of the best in the area, but there is not much else in the Lions high school.
LB Elijah Lee
After Reuben Foster, Malcolm Smith and Brock Coyle, here is Lee. The second-year Kansas State is ready for his first NFL start, as the 49ers' depth at the linebacker will be tested.
Lee should start alongside rookie Fred Warner, who has had an awesome opening week. Lee came late in the game and recorded three tackles while playing only 10 points instead of Coyle, who suffered a concussion and a broken bone in the back.
Lee is a long-term player who has become more comfortable taking blocks. But his strength is similar to that of Warner. Both have the speed and agility to make side games at the sideline.
