Bruce Arians revealed that only one coaching position could get him out of retirement.
The former Cardinals coach said the mere fact of being offered the Browns' head coaching position would make him back on the sidelines.
"Cleveland is the only job I would consider," he said Sunday at CBS booth, via Cantonrep.com.
Arians had previously coached the Browns as offensive coordinator (2001-2003) led by Butch Davis. The Browns had a winning record, with the team qualifying for the playoffs in 2002.
Since then, Cleveland has experienced quarterbacks and coaches at an alarming rate. According to Arians, the team needs an experienced trainer.
Ariens has experience. He was hired at the end of the 2003 season to work with the Steelers and was promoted offensive coordinator in 2007. He held this position until 2011.
He then went on to work under Chuck Pagano with the Colts in 2012, where he had his first NFL head coach job as an acting coach when Pagano was diagnosed with leukemia at the beginning of the season.
He led the Colts to a 9-3 record and took home honors of the AP 's 2012 coach, making him the first interim head coach to win the price.
When the Browns were looking for a new head coach in 2013, Arians wanted to be their guy. But Cleveland instead hired Rob Chudzinski.
Arians spent 2013-17 with the Cardinals and, after the 2017 season, announced his retirement.
Arians has named his former mentor.
"My guy would be Chuck Pagano," said Arians.
