ALAMEDA – A sideline of the NFL is a fishbowl. The cameras will capture almost all the interactions of the game, most of which are super boring.
You'll see players setting up tablets and a talking strategy, or coaches trying to create a group of positions. You will have fun facial expressions reacting to the results, good and bad. And, on rare occasions, the exchanges will heat up and the fans will panic.
That's what happened between Raiders coach Jon Gruden and defensive coordinator Paul Guenther after Raheem Mostert's 52-yard run in the 34-3 loss to the 49ers at Levi's Stadium.
Gruden caught Guenther's attention and expressed his dissatisfaction with another big game in an embarrassing defeat, then Guenther leaned back a little.
The touchline windows are often oversized, leading outside people to wonder if the Gruden-Guenther dynamic has fractured in one way or another.
This is certainly not the case. Gruden chose Guenther to help rebuild this Raiders franchise. The two live close to each other in Easy Bay and share cars almost every day. They are on the verge of trying to execute a long-term plan.
Gruden made it clear during his press conference Friday afternoon when he was questioned about the stormy exchange.
