Bryan Singer Talks to Lead 'Red Sonja' for Avi Lerner's Millennium – Variety

Bryan Singer is in negotiations to head Red Sonja for Avi Lerner's Millennium Media, according to a spokesman for the producer.

The news comes three months after Singer received the leadership credit for Freddie Mercury's biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody", although he was replaced by Dexter Fletcher in the final stages of filming. Fletcher came on board to run in December after Fox sent Singer off the project after repeated absences from the set forced the studio to stop production.

Singer's other credits include "The Usual Suspects", "Superman Returns", "X-Men", "X-Men: Days of Future Past" and "X-Men: Apocalypse". on the FX Legion in January as a result of allegations of sexual misconduct.

Millennium Media announced in November, at the American Film Market, the restart of "Red Sonja" and planned to fund and produce a new film based on the warrior.

Producers are Lerner and Joe Gatta of Millennium, along with Mark Canton and Courtney Solomon of Cinelou. The executive producers will be Boaz Davidson, John Thompson and Trevor Short of Millennium Films. Campbell and Grobman Films' Campbell and Lati Grobman will also be executive producers with Scott Karol of Cinelou and Luke Lieberman.

The film has not been broadcast yet. The 1985 film "Red Sonja" featured Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The character was introduced in 1934 in the story of Robert E. Howard's "The Vulture's Legend".

Lerner's recent credits include the Expendables franchise, "The Hitman's Bodyguard" and "London Has Fallen". Singer was dropped by his agency, WME, earlier this year. The news of his possible attachment to "Red Sonja" was reported for the first time by the Hollywood Reporter.
