COLUMBUS – The state of Ohio avoided the disaster of the first half and won a 36-31 win Saturday against Nebraska.
What happened: OSU played as nightmarish as possible in the first half but woke up (in some respects) in the second.
In the third quarter, the ground game has finally become alive thanks to J.K. Dobbins and Mike Weber.
While the Buckeyes led 21-16, Dobbins scored on three yards to give OSU a 23-21 lead. During the same trip, Weber recorded a big 27-yard run to help resuscitate the ground attack.

Weber again won two orders later, scoring 37 yards and Haskins' 9-yard pass to Parris Campbell, giving the Buckeyes a 30-21 lead for the last 15 minutes.
After a Nebraska goal, Dobbins sealed the win with a 42-yard touchdown with just under five minutes left in the game.
OSU has been looking for the semi-offensive for weeks to help diversify the offensive. That's what happened one day when Dwayne Haskins had more trouble than usual, scoring 18 goals out of 32 for a total of 252 yards.
As the run improved in the second half, the Buckeye defense as a whole continued to struggle. There were missed tackles, missed assignments, and they allowed Cornhuskers 450 yards.
Add to that the three turnovers of OSU and it is hardly if the fans of the improvement and those of the team hoped after the week off.
In fact, at the end of the first half, things were so ugly that the fans were hoisted in front of the team heading for the locker room.
In the first two quarters, the Buckeyes earned a clearance, a 42-yard Haskins passing pass to Johnnie Dixon and a 10-yard Dobbins touchdown.
But Nebraska was in tune with Ohio State for 30 minutes.
In the first part of the game, the Cornhuskers accumulated 75 yards on 12 games, with a touchdown of Devine Ozigbo on 1 race.
Just under nine minutes into the second quarter, Haskins was sacked for 7 yards and dropped the ball at the same time. Nebraska recovered and began a 10-yard, 64-yard campaign that ended with a quarterback goalkeeper by Adrian Martinez, bringing the Huskers back to under two.
Before half-time, Nebraska forced another fumble, this time by K.J. Hill and took the 21-16 advantage against another Martinez quarterback goalkeeper.
It was finished when: Dobbins has had its long run to make it 36-24 Ohio State.
With the afternoon he had, it was just that Dobbins was the exclamation point.
He said: "I understand that it was a team with two wins. But it's a team with two wins that people do not want to play at the moment. – Urban Meyer on Nebraska.
Buckeye standout: In attack, make your choice between Weber and Dobbins. They combined for 254 yards on the floor, ahead of Nebraska, who had 184 yards.
After Jordan Fuller was ejected in the first half, Brendon White stepped in and was positive for the defense. He led the team with 13 tackles, including two for defeat.
Game of the game: Weber's 37-meter run to prepare the Buckeyes for their second touchdown of the second half was huge in terms of goals and morale. Although Weber had no hits, he helped maintain OSU's offensive momentum at critical moments.
Statistically speaking: Dobbins and Weber have passed the 2,000-yard mark. This is the first time in the history of the program that the Buckeyes have two players from the same team who have crossed this course.
OSU is now 6-0 under Meyer after a loss. Teams led by Meyer have lost five straight games just five times in their 17-year career.
Next week: OSU heads to East Lansing to face the state of Michigan (6-3). The Spartans dominated Maryland 24-3 in College Park, Maryland on Saturday.
