BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo City Mission distributed more than 5,000 meals to people in need during Thanksgiving. More than 200 volunteers arrived at 7 am in the morning meal for the west of New York to help assemble meals and pack them into cars to deliver.

The goal of the Buffalo City mission was to collect 2,000 turkeys for hot meals delivered to poor and homeless people in western New York. this target was exceeded and 3,000 turkeys were counted on the morning of delivery.

"We need more hands and feet – it's the only way to change the face of homelessness, change poverty and make everyone have a meal on vacation" Aubrey Calhoun, Associate Executive Director, Development, Public Relations and Volunteer with the City Mission, said 2 on your side.

Among the more than 200 volunteers were familiar faces. This year, many volunteers have volunteered to serve Thanksgiving to the mission for decades. Calhoun explained how the repeated efforts of returning volunteers in their country have had an impact on the number of people to whom the mission was able to deliver meals.

"We are getting to the point where we are getting to know the volunteers and their families and welcoming them every year."

The Buffalo City Mission uses thanksgiving to kick off its holiday food drive, during which it attempts to deliver thousands of meals over Christmas.
