First, it was a rumor. It's a phenomenon that spread like wildfire on Thursday afternoon. Sources close to John Emery Jr. did not even know if it was true. They had to check.
Then Emery sent a tweet. And that was.
The 5-star RB is no longer engaged in Georgia. He announced the news via his Twitter account. His decision brings the Bulldogs back to a trio of 5-star clerks for the 2019 promotion.
Emery becomes the fourth Bulldogs disengagement in the 2019 category in October. His decision also reduces the program to 16 commitments for this cycle. Jadon Haselwood, another potential 5-star receiver, also canceled his commitment to UGA on Oct. 2.
"It's one of the toughest decisions I've made in my life so far," Emery said as he took the lead on his social media post.
The 5-star RB player was present for the UGA-LSU match and, subsequently, he told DawgNation that the results of a single match had not decreased nor affected his commitment.
Something to. Something did.
"This recruitment process has taught me patience," posted a document with the tweet in the notebook. "Even if something seems right and in fact, it is always better to be careful, time is a subset of precautions."
His decision dropped the Bulldogs to No. 4 national with their 2019 class in the Composite 247Sports Team rankings.
It is interesting to note that only four schools (Clemson, LSU, Michigan and Oklahoma) have hired as many 5-star potential candidates in their program in 2019 as the Bulldogs have disengaged from their board this month.
Where does this news from John Emery Jr. leave UGA now?
Look for the Bulldogs to continue their pursuit with Emery and even the 5-star RB Trey Sanders at IMG Academy.
The idea is that the Bulldogs will not forget their recruiting potential for the 2019 category with other big names such as RB Ty Davis (4 stars) and Ray prospect Florida Nay'Quan Wright.
Noah Cain, the country's No. 6 candidate in this class, is another name to watch in this cycle. He has always been impressed by the Bulldogs and has built strong relationships with coaching staff.
Georgia will have to add a talented RB candidate to the 2019 category. The decision made by Emery today will not change that.
The initial reaction of many people here will be that the LSU's performance against Georgia helped to stimulate that decision. Or maybe something that Tiger fans or even coach Ed Orgeron told him. It is difficult to prevent Louisiana's elite hopefuls from going to play Baton Rouge.
However, the degree of difficulty of this one did not seem any more difficult than that of the last tugs of Alabama for Zamir White. Perhaps the same could be said of Penn State and Andre Swift. James Cook, FSU and Miami could also be grouped in this column.
These were all unelected RB aspirants from the state who had eventually chosen the UGA despite the keen interest shown by other energy programs.
The big difference here is that not all of these guys were already at UGA while they were making their big decisions. They just knew that Nick Chubb and Sony Michel would soon be leaving for the NFL.
LSU is a gigantic program to try to attract recruits, but I think the first reason counts as much as the second in this case.
