In case you're wondering, TCM will actually pay tribute to Burt Reynolds, but you'll have to wait for it. The film channel will not broadcast the marathon of six films until December 26th. A Christmas end gift? You will also have to submit to the TCM choices, which do not include Boogie Nights. Here are the selections:
"Smokey and the Bandit": This 1977 comedy cost the life of Sally Field, about which Reynolds said in 2016: "She was the love of my life and I reversed the relationship. This feeling of loss never disappears. Jackie Gleason is also on board.
"Deliverance": This dark thriller of 1972 is unforgettable, not only because of the banjo scene. Jon Voight costars. He was nominated for a better Oscar picture, but "The Godfather" deserved rightly.
"The Longest Yard": This 1974 prison comedy was redone in 2005 with Reynolds in a different role.
"Hooper": Reynolds plays an aging stuntman in the 1978 comedy. Field is also present with Jan-Michael Vincent, Brian Keith and Adam West.
"Smokey and the Bandit II": Yup, a sequel of 1980, with Field, Gleason and Dom DeLuise.
"Best Friends": Norman Jewison directed and Barry Levinson co-wrote this 1982 romantic comedy with Goldie Hawn, Jessica Tandy and Keenan Wynn.
