On Thursday, Busy Philipps met her fans, revealing that she had been raped while she was only 14 years old.
The 39-year-old actress detailed the horrific ordeal in an Instagram article, which featured a school-directory picture.
"It's me at 14 years old. I have been raped. It took me 25 years to pronounce those words. I wrote about it in my book. I finally talked to my parents and my sister about 4 months ago. Today is the day when we are no longer silent. All of us. I'm afraid to post this, "wrote the actress, referring to her upcoming memoir entitled" This Will Only Hurt a Little ".
Philipps made the post to support Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, a California professor who accused Brett Kavanaugh, a Supreme Court candidate, of sexual assault while they were both teenagers. Ford and Kavanaugh appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday to discuss the allegations.
"I can not imagine what Dr. Ford is feeling right now," said Philipps.
ALYSSA MILANO TO ATTEND KAVANAUGH, FORD HEARING
Philipps is one of many celebrities who have publicly expressed their support for Ford by revealing their incidents of sexual assault. Padma Lakshmi, Lili Reinhart and Alyssa Milano are among the stars who shared their stories of sexual assault.
Milan also attended Thursday's audience as a guest of Senator Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif. Milan told reporters that she was there to support Ford and believes that the hearing could be different from the hearings of 1991, when the current Supreme Court Justice, Clarence Thomas, was charged with sexual harassment by Professor Anita Hill.
"I remember it was a horrible situation … it was so much a part of our daily discussion," said Milano. "I think we are in another era. I think women are more supportive than in 1991, and I think women across the country are not going to let that happen. "
