MATTHEWS, N.C. – Additional security measures will be put in place at all Matthews schools when Butler High School students return to class for the first time on Thursday after a classmate was shot in one of the halls of the school. school.
Matthews' Chief of Police is also scheduled to spend the day at Butler High School.
These measures are intended to reassure students as a result of the deadly shooting in a school hallway Monday.

Glenn Counts, a journalist at Eyewitness News, spoke to a psychologist about the range of emotions that students will face.
"It's a very heavy thing to face death at a young age," said therapist Justin Perry.
On Monday, Jatwan Cuffie, 16, reportedly shot Bobby McKeithen, 16, at school. McKeithen died later in the hospital, police said. The deadly shootout stems from a previous fight, police said.

Perry said that 30% of his clients were teenagers aged 14 and over.
The district will have councilors and police officers in all Matthews schools.
"Even for people who are not afraid sometimes, when you get there, your body can contract and I imagine it can be hard to focus for a lot of kids tomorrow," said Perry.
Perry expects the spirits to be short tomorrow and the students have trouble concentrating.
"There are so many emotions and anger is the one that seems the easiest to express," said Perry.
Parents should expect a range of emotions when students return to school.
"Maybe establish a type of plan with your child," said Perry. "For some kids, maybe they want that constant recording."
Perry said that it was important not to set a deadline for mourning.
Cuffie was arrested and charged with first degree murder.
Thursday night there will be Candlelight Service for McKeithen.
Several groups will meet at Camp Greene Park, Allegheny Street, at 7 pm
McKeithen's arrangements are as follows:
