MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Thousands of people make local purchases to support Small Business Saturday.

In downtown Stillwater, you can find shop window shoppers, people in a hurry and filled with bags filled with gifts and many ornaments.

Jim Beboer and his family make a point of doing their shopping during this holiday season. They visited the Käthe Wohlfahrt of America, specializing in Christmas ornaments made in Germany.

"Our tradition is to come to Stillwater and do some shopping for everyone. It's such a beautiful city and all the locals are very friendly, it's a lot of fun, it's a great way to start the Christmas holidays, "said Bebo. "I think it's very important. There are a lot of big box chains and Amazon, of course, that are trying to conquer the world, but it's the small family stores that are really essential for the economy. "

David Beale thinks the same thing and wants to teach this lesson to his two daughters.

"It's just that it's good for them to learn that if you stay in one place, everyone will grow around you," Beale said.

And you could find something you can not get anywhere else.

"Here you get unique items handcrafted and handcrafted, which is different from anything you use," said sales associate Emma Westmoreland.

"Everything seems so complex and handmade, and you can only feel the love that has characterized these products," said customer Brett Mueller. "You do not see in some of the bigger stores."

Käthe Wohlfahrt welcomed around 1,000 people on Black Friday.
