BYU can not play at the end, falls to Boise State, 21-16

BOISE – There were not many goals scored on Saturday night at Albertsons Stadium, but it was another BYU-Boise State's eventful, dramatic and memorable match, packed with great games, games, great elk and plethora of mistakes.

In the final game, the Broncos stopped BYU's quarterback duo Zach Wilson from scrambling inside the 5-yard line.

And with that, Boise State was determined to defeat the Cougars, 21-16, in front of a crowd of 35,241.

BYU overcame a disastrous first quarter, but showed resilience and fought back. The result was decisive.

In the first start on Wilson's road, against the program he had signed on once, he completed 18 of 27 passes for a total of 252 yards and almost managed to turn the tide. BYU (4-5) is now 0-5 in all respects on blue turf.

Brett Rypien quarterback Boise State (7-2) completed 23 of 35 passes for 214 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

The final practice of the Cougars started with about two minutes and in the first run, Wilson completed a 59-yard pass for Matt Hadley to help BYU score.

BYU finally had the ball first on Boise State's 2-yard line seven seconds from time. After recovering the ball, Wilson blurred points 2 and 2 but was attacked by the Broncos at the end of the allotted time.

At half-time, BYU began the second half with a fumble recovery from Rhett Sandlin after Boise State entered the Cougar territory. Wilson completed a 42-yard pass to Talon Shumway, who completed an acrobatic flight on Bronco's 10-yard line. Three games later, Wilson scored on a four-yard goalkeeper to shoot in a point, 14-13.

This is the first Cougars touchdown since the fourth quarter of the Hawaiian game on Oct. 13, ending a six-quarter drought in TD.

Boise State responded with a run of 16 games and 79 yards eight minutes from the end.

By the end of the third quarter, BYU's offensive coordinator, Jeff Grimes, pulled out his bag. He claimed a Wilson side pass to Neil Pau'u, who threw a close-to-the-end pass, Matt Bushman, who made an impressive one-handed hold before slipping into the end zone. Boise State recovered and took possession.

After the Cougars made a significant stop early in the fourth quarter, the BYU offensive brought the ball back to Bronco territory in a possession that featured two reverse games that were against BYU. The record culminated with a 41-yard placement by Southam.

This was an unfavorable beginning for BYU.

Riley Burt chose the kickoff of the kickoff three meters deep into his own goal zone and gave the ball to the Cougars on 13.

After three shots on goal, Boise State scored seven games later, wearing a one-meter touchdown run by Alexander Mattison.

On the next possession of the Cougars, they entered Bronco territory before Skyler Southam missed a 48-yard field goal.

Boise State increased his lead to 14-0 with a seven-yard touchdown pass from Rypien to A.J. Richardson.

Things got worse with the kick-off, BYU's Sione Finau escaping the ball that Skyler Seibold picked up. Fortunately for the Cougars, the command stalled and resulted in a 41-yard wander goal placement

BYU sits on the dashboard after a five-minute drive, thanks to a 26-yard field by Southam to make it 14-3.

Cougar cornerback Michael Shelton intercepted Rypien in the middle of the field and gave him 31 yards. The BYU player had to once again settle for a goal from the center, which allowed Southam to score a 43-yard goal at 4:58, thereby reducing 14-6.

The Cougars dodged a ball while a 100-yard punt return for a BSU touchdown was canceled by a penalty kick in the back.

BYU once again stepped on Bronco's territory, but with 44 seconds remaining in the first half, Wilson missed out on a decisive pass and Boise State re-entered, spoiling another scoring opportunity.

Cougars go to UMASS next Saturday.
