Paul Wood, a community volunteer from Lodi in California, was diagnosed with brain cancer but recovered without any surgery, and claimed praying to God helped cured him.
Several months ago, Mr Wood was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour after suffering from sharp headaches, and immediately turned to his faith and support from his local community.
He told CBS Sacramento: “I had massive headaches. I couldn’t walk down the hallway without holding on to the walls.”
Mr Wood was referred to a neurosurgeon at UC San Francisco for a suspected brain bleed, but doctors soon realised he had tumour.
He turned to prayers and support from his community, and told CBS: “My phone is blowing up, my Facebook is prayer after prayer, all over California.”
A day before his surgery, Mr Wood’s suspected tumour had completely vanished, leaving doctors baffled.
Mr Wood said: “It’s a miracle and that is the way God planned it.”
His specialist, Dr Richard Yee said Mr Wood’s cure was something doctors “can’t explain”, as surgeons remain shocked over the man’s miraculous recovery.
Dr Yee told CBS: “We do tests and we have medical technology and we try to come up with some conclusion, we’re like detectives. And sometimes things happen that we can’t explain.”
Faith leaders at Mr Wood’s local church granted his recovery to constant prayer in numbers, and praised the man for his faith in God.
Jason McEachron, a Pastor at Gravity Church told CBS: “He just kept saying, ‘no matter what happens to me, I’m going to be okay. I trust God.’ And that was an inspiration for a lot of people around him.”
Church member Ryan Kimura added: “Paul’s story just breathes hope.”
Doctors have asked Mr Wood to take part in a new research study to find out how he miraculously recovered from his cancer.
