Cancer survivors honored at NILE Rodeo

INVOICING – The scene was moving Friday night at the Billings MetraPark before the start of the NILE Rodeo.

More than a dozen breast cancer survivors have been honored by entering the arena. All of this was part of the "hard enough to wear pink" evening – an effort to show support and also raise funds for the fight against breast cancer.

Dona Mastveltem Dillman was one of the survivors. She is the fifth person in her immediate family to fight cancer, but fortunately she has all survived.

She said it was a moving experience to walk on the clay floor of the Rimrock Auto Arena.

"It strikes near my home. It was awesome. It was incredible. It goes straight to the heart, "she said.

It is estimated that a breast cancer will be diagnosed in one in eight women during her lifetime. Gayle Ellis was one of those women and received her diagnosis 22 years ago.

"It makes tears in our eyes that people support more than 22 years ago," she said. "Twenty-two years ago we did not talk much, but now it's a lot. All the steps forward that have been made since that time. "

Early detection is one of the keys to breast cancer survival.

One dollar of each ticket sold was donated to the Eva project of the St. Vincent Foundation. More than $ 6,000 was raised to help uninsured women and the under-insured to undergo a life-saving mammogram.
